Peak season brings delivery logistics front of mind for brands, their consumer customers, and their business buyers too

It’s Black Friday today, and a time of year when delivery logistics are very much front of mind. Online shopping is starting to peak, with Cyber Monday and Christmas still to come. Business purchasing is also at a high point, as they use up any leftover budgets before year end.

As the delivery timeframes shrink, the need for express shipping and same day deliveries rises, inexorably.

Having a suitable delivery logistics solution at hand is important for growing businesses and established brands alike. Yet few have a distribution fleet of their own.  Many struggle to find affordable and available options to get their goods out to eager customers or businesses. Even those with their own fleet often find they cannot flex enough during peak periods, outside their normal radius, or in challenging geographical locations. Most cannot find funds to invest in a sophisticated delivery management system.

Introducing YOVOY… now loading to make next year’s peak delivery season easier for everyone

From Spring 2025 onwards, YOVOY will enable sending businesses and brands to connect with a network of validated and available commercial drivers whenever they have a package to send.  It will operate via a mobile app for drivers, and a web app for senders, effectively providing businesses with a flexible delivery logistics platform accessible on their desktop, laptop or tablet. Senders can distribute and deliver goods to customers on the same day via their own virtual delivery fleet, and do so at the optimal market price.

Improving delivery logistics for senders

YOVOY will give accessible, flexible, on-demand access to dedicated same day courier services. It will let sending businesses post and award jobs directly to drivers who have subscribed to the YOVOY mobile app, with full sender control, cost transparency and visibility of their jobs in-progress and prior delivery jobs.

Unlike traditional contract carriers, the cost of shipping with YOVOY will be set by the sender who can set a job price or allow drivers to bid, with pricing guidance available within the system if they choose. There are no standing charges, as YOVOY will simply levy a flat 10% handling fee from senders on the final agreed price for each job.

Bringing a better and fairer deal for drivers

YOVOY will offer professional full-time, part-time and also gig drivers seeking extra income with a flow of same day delivery opportunities, as long as they have a suitable vehicle and appropriate licence and insurance in place – and do so at a significantly lower and more manageable subscription fee than existing ‘courier marketplace’ services.

Drivers will pay a £10.99 monthly membership fee. This is only around 10% of the cost of an average transit van tank of fuel. YOVOY will then charge a low 5% handling fee on the price of each job. Unlike most courier marketplaces and gig delivery platforms, YOVOY will pay drivers promptly within 7 days of Proof of Delivery, which will support a healthier cashflow and business.

YOVOY’s founders hope to end an era which has often seen drivers forced effectively to fuel up their vehicles and fund deliveries for brands and businesses for significant periods prior to receiving payments.

It will offer a new opportunity to earn in a more profitable and predictable way through dedicated deliveries, as an alternative to some current self-employed options. These include highly time-pressured multi-stop delivery gigs, and low hourly rate jobs with pay-per-parcel contracts, who face declining ‘per parcel’ rates as high volume couriers engage in a competitive ‘race to the bottom’.

Breaking the traditional parcel mould

Most carriers and courier business models are based upon a requirement to maximise the use of every vehicle’s capacity and running cost, and will try to fill these to the maximum possible for each route. While this can be highly effective and cost efficient if a sender is shipping large and predictable quantities of similarly shaped, stackable packages, it ceases to be so for those with less traditionally shaped goods to ship out, either regularly or occasionally. Many carriers and courier services are unable or unwilling to carry such goods.

YOVOY will not only allow businesses to send traditional, cuboid packages. While, without any contracts, irregular shipments will be as manageable as regular ones.

With control in their hands, senders can quickly find the optimal driver for their package or packages even if these are awkwardly shaped, and bulky. Dedicated delivery vehicles mean that senders know that their packages will have the safe space for transit, rather than running the risk of their goods being forced into overstuffed vans and vehicles.  Dedicated delivery is always more flexible, since it can mean exclusive use of a vehicle, or a parallel load of several shipments from a similar location to a common drop-off point.
